Symptoms of Autism - Do You Know Them?

Category: Health: Children's Health

While the symptoms of autism can vary widely, the parents of an autistic child tend to know when something isn't quite right. So it takes testing and an expert diagnosis to verify if someone is autistic or has another developmental disability that may have similar symptoms. Keep reading to learn a little bit about autism symptoms - the more common ones, and even still these symptoms can be manifest differently in children. What is often seen with autistic children is a tendency toward odd or unusual ways of walking or moving, and there are often unusual facial expressions. When the child responds, there is something different or unexpected, perhaps. Parents often observe that their autistic children seldom smile, or express emotions in a conventional way. There are some who tend to think autistic children do not have any emotions, however that is not accurate. It's hard to tell what an autistic child is feeling, what emotions are present; but they do express them in their unique way. Other symptoms include the repetition of peculiar movements, and then other movements that are not repetitious but still unusual. There can quite possibly be an over-sensitivity to noises or lights, etc. It's very common to see extreme reactions of fearfulness caused by one or another type of sensory stimulation. Many scientists believe this is due to certain differences in the way autistic people's brains work. Not everyone who is very sensitive to lights and sounds, however, is autistic. What is also very worthy of note is that the very highest functioning known autistics share this similar problem with lights and sounds, etc. What needs to be done for the child is do all you can to eliminate the particular offending sensory stimulus. One symptom of autism is a fear or dislike of any changes in daily routines. Autistic people, from the lowest to the highest functioning, tend to like repetition and ritual. Movement and routine are basically self taught and self managed such as how they prefer to stand or certain types of movement. Regardless of what the routine is, if you try to force a change they will become disturbed. This can make treatment more difficult because you must take these things into consideration. These are some of the symptoms of autism that many autistic children and adults display. There is a lot of variation with the symptoms, and that sometimes can complicate matters for everyone. The most important thing is to get an early diagnosis and treatment regimen established for your child. There are numerous different topics I enjoy writing for and my present favourite topic is a site that discusses different audience response system the website could be seen at http://www.soundbp.com I hope you appreciate it.
